Karl Greene

Chief Potter

I got hooked on pottery when I studied A level art and craft at Boston college in Lincolnshire. I had a studio all to myself for two years and was able to spend time just enjoying playing with clay. I went on to do a teaching degree at The University of Gloucestershire, meeting people who were to be a great influence on me later, namely Mick Casson and Jerry Fryman. After teaching for three years I met Mike Goddard and started throwing pots in my conservatory at home. Things gradually expanded to a studio in Little Bentley, and then shrunk down again to fit in the studio in our back garden.

My work has always been stoneware based with a heavy Chinese and Japanese influence both in form and glaze. I have focused on reduction fired stoneware and raku pottery for the past 27 years. Recently I have had more time to focus on a more definite direction in my work. Using the reduction glazes I have I am aiming to be more decorative in my style and influenced by the landscape in which I have lived for the past three decades.

From here I curate a unique assortment of Scandinavian inspired accessories, gifts and home décor which I personally select from the designers I love. I feel passionately about championing partnerships with designers and artists who share my belief in ‘slow’ design, which is all about taking time to create designs you will cherish for a lifetime. I look forward to sharing my stories and discoveries with you.

Jessica Bradley

Jessica Bradley studied Graphic Design, followed by a degree in Art and Design in Ipswich in the 1990’s. Both courses gave her the chance to explore a variety of creative practices including illustration and drawing as well as and ceramics and glass. During her degree course she met local sculptor John Green, who generously donated his time to teach her the basics of carving.

After a long period away from any serious creative practice, she is now revisiting and exploring the skills she learned. Carving and sculpting has also lead her back to ceramics, and her latest work explores both.

Her most recent work is a series of female heads in clay. Her style is a marriage of form and feeling. The form is predetermined through a series of sketches, while the emotion of each piece develops as she works. Her work is often described as serene and reflective.

Co-curator

Erica Åkerlund

Collaborator

Erica Åkerlund is a Finnish artist, living in the UK. Her background is in animation having worked as an animation director, character designer and animator for over two decades.
An urge to let her inner world and characters run free, led her to embark on a life as an independent artist, away from rules and regulations.
Under the umbrella term ‘artist’ Erica can work in various fields like embroidery, drawing, sculpting, murals, animation etc, dodging any pigeonholing. Maybe ‘visual entertainer’ describes her best?
